SBIP...and to the Students

This is what I talked on to my teacher friends and to my students during the presentation. I presented on Fundamental Rights and Duties of an individual citizen and as an individual student. Mainly focused on their (students') roles, responsibilities and their rights as a student.
In these times of ever changing society, the trend of being civic-ally educated is fast losing its essence. So as to fresh all of them I did present on the following...

Fundamental Rights (Article 7)
What?

ü  HJ Laski, “are those conditions of life without which no man can be at the best.”
ü  Citizens + State = reciprocal relationship.
ü  Citizens get benefits from the State and enjoy certain rights, which are fundamental for the all-round development of an individual.
ü  They are known as Fundamental Rights.
ü  Fundamental Rights guarantees equality to all citizens without discrimination.
ü  These rights have been given in the Constitution and no government can violate or abolish them.

Classification of Fundamental Rights

Ø  Right to Equality (clauses 1,8,13 and 15)
Ø  Right to Freedom of Speech, Expression and Religion (clauses 2 and 3)
Ø  Right to Freedom of Property (clauses 9 and 10)
Ø  Right to Freedom of Media and Information (clauses 4 and 5)
Ø  Right to Freedom of Vote (clause 6)
Ø  Right to Justice (clauses 16,17,18 and 19)
Ø  Restrictions on Fundamental Rights (clause 20)

If the Fundamental Rights are denied to the citizens it can lead to discontent, inequality and religious and racial hatred.

Fundamental Duties (Article 8)

Ø  ‘Duty’ means a moral or legal obligation.
Ø  The duties rendered by citizens to the State for having given the rights for the fullest development of an individual.
Ø  Citizens must fulfill their obligations towards the State.

Classification of Fundamental Duties
Ø  Duty to Nation
Ø  Duty to Society
Ø  Duty to Humanity

Fundamental Duties have been enshrined in the Constitution:
v  To respect and not cause harm to others
Ø  To render help to the people and the nation during the times of natural calamities and emergencies.
Ø  To serve and defend the sovereignty of the nation and abide by all the Laws.

Relationship between Fundamental Rights and Duties

ü  Like the body and the soul – Rights and Duties are closely related – two sides of the same coin.
ü  The right of one related to the duty of the other.
ü  The State guarantees protection of the citizens’ enjoyment of his/her rights and it becomes their duty to serve the State.

What are your Fundamental Rights and Duties?

You have the Right to:

  1. Education
  2. Games and Sports
  3. Hostel Facilities
  4. Laboratory Facilities
  5. Library and Internet Facilities
  6. Safe Drinking Water
  7. Safe Learning Environment
